How DryMark Restoration Compton Was Born in Compton

We opened this branch in 2011, the same year DryMark Restoration started, because we kept getting calls from Compton homeowners who had already been through two or three restoration companies and still had wet walls. The trade was different then. Adjusters were denying claims left and right, not because the work was bad, but because the paperwork was worthless. No photos. No moisture readings. No proof that anything had actually dried.

We remember one job on Oleander Avenue. A family had paid out of pocket for a water damage crew that ripped out their drywall, set up fans for three days, and left. No documentation. No readings. When the mold showed up six weeks later, their insurance denied the secondary claim because there was no record the first job had ever happened. We walked in with a moisture meter, a camera, and a notebook. Took us four hours to document what the previous crew had missed. The adjuster paid the full claim once we showed him the numbers.

That night we called Haven and said we wanted to bring the DryMark standard to Compton. Not because the city needed another restoration company. Because it needed one that would leave a paper trail thick enough to stand up to scrutiny.

Alicia Brennan’s Personal Connection to the Damage Restoration Trade

I got into this work sideways. I was managing apartment buildings in Carson in the mid-2000s, and every time a pipe burst or a unit flooded, I had to stand there while a restoration crew tore things apart and told me to trust them. I didn’t trust them. They never showed me anything. Just pointed at wet carpet and said it all had to go. I started buying my own moisture meters, reading the IICRC standards, learning what “dry” actually meant in measurable terms.

The smell of a wet building is specific. It’s not clean water. It’s drywall paper swelling, the mineral smell of concrete wicking moisture, the sweet edge of microbial growth starting in a baseboard cavity. I learned to walk into a room and know by scent where the water had traveled, then confirm it with a meter. That combination of intuition and evidence became the whole point for me.

What gets me out of bed is the homeowner who doesn’t believe anyone anymore. They’ve been told they need $20,000 of demolition when a $400 Injectidry mat system would save their hardwood. They’ve been ghosted by a contractor who cashed the insurance check. I sit on their floor with a moisture probe and show them the actual percentage. Seventeen percent moisture content in that stud. Six percent in this one. Here’s the photo. Here’s the date. Here’s what dry looks like, and here’s how we get there.

If I weren’t doing this, I’d probably be teaching. Something with concrete skills and measurable outcomes. Woodshop, maybe. I like watching someone understand a tool for the first time.

Meet Alicia Brennan - The Person Behind Every Job

I’m Alicia Brennan, Owner and Founder of DryMark Restoration Compton. I’ve been in this trade since before we opened this branch, starting with those apartment buildings and building toward the Haven Standard one job at a time. I’m IICRC-certified in water damage restoration and applied structural drying, and I require the same of every technician working under our name.

What makes me different from a corporate franchise technician is that I still go to the jobs. Not every one, but enough. I check the drying logs. I call homeowners on day two and day four to ask if they’ve seen the readings. I keep a garden in my backyard in Compton, and I think the patience of waiting for tomatoes to ripen is the same patience drying a house properly takes. You can’t rush it and you can’t fake it.

My commitment to you is personal. If something goes wrong on your job, you call me. Not a complaint line. Me.

Our Promise to Compton Homeowners

Our values come from the H.A.V.E.N. code, and we live them as policy, not poster slogans.

Have it in writing. Every job starts with a flat price and a written scope. Clause 1 of the Haven Standard. We’ve turned down work from homeowners who wanted us to start immediately and bill later. The paperwork protects both of us.

Arrive on schedule. We give you a real window, a named technician, and a text when they’re on the way. Not “sometime Tuesday.” Tuesday, 9 to 11, Marcus, en route at 8:47.

Verified crews. Everyone on your property is required to hold the license and insurance California requires. License number on the page, insurance available on request.

Evidence on every job. Photos and moisture readings of what we actually found, not what we think might be there. You get the documentation. Your adjuster gets the documentation.

No surprises. No door upsell. No scope creep. No “while we’re in here.” The price we write is the price you pay.

Our Credentials

Our Credentials

State-licensed - We meet California’s requirements for damage restoration contractors. No license number invented here; available on request.

Insured & bonded - Coverage that protects your property while we’re working in it. Policy details provided before any work begins.

Years of local experience - Serving Compton, Carson, Gardena, Bellflower, Lakewood, Signal Hill, Long Beach, Hawthorne, Lawndale, Torrance, Inglewood, and Harbor City since 2011.

Strong local reputation - Built job by job, reading by reading, in the neighborhoods we serve.

These credentials matter because you’re letting strangers into your home during a crisis. The license means someone checked our qualifications. The insurance means you’re not liable if something goes wrong. The local tenure means we know which Compton neighborhoods have clay soil that shifts foundations and cracks slabs, which ones have older copper plumbing that’s reached its lifespan, which adjuster offices prefer which documentation formats. That knowledge saves you time and money.

We use equipment from brands like XPOWER and B-Air because their specs are published and their performance is verifiable. We document with Injectidry systems when we need to dry hardwood in place rather than tear it out. The tools matter less than the readings they produce, but we don’t use tools we can’t explain.

Rooted in Compton

Our trucks are parked in Compton. Our technicians live in or near the cities we serve. We know the difference between the flood patterns in the Dominguez Flood Control Channel area and the slab moisture issues in the older neighborhoods near Compton Boulevard. We’ve worked jobs after the winter storms that back up storm drains across Long Beach and Carson, and we know which blocks in Hawthorne see the most claims when the rains linger.

We’re not sponsoring little leagues or pretending to be something we’re not. We’re a local branch of DryMark Restoration, independently owned and operated, working to a standard that was built on documentation and proof. The community connection is the work itself. The house we dry properly. The claim we document so it gets paid. The homeowner who calls us back when their neighbor needs help.
